Helping Children Cope With Bullying

Bullying is more than just unkind words or actions. It can deeply impact a child’s emotional, social, and academic development. The Leeto Child Development Centre team of professionals understands how damaging bullying can be to young people, and we’re here to help them reclaim their confidence and peace of mind.

The Psychological Impact of Bullying

Children who experience bullying can often struggle with other difficulties as a result of the bullying. Some known challenges include the following:

  • Anxiety and depression
  • Social withdrawal or isolation
  • Declining academic performance
  • Low self-esteem and self-worth
  • Difficulty trusting others

If left unaddressed, these effects can last well into adulthood. That’s why early intervention is essential.

How Leeto Supports Children Facing Bullying

At our development centre in Sandton, Johannesburg, we use a compassionate and research-based approach to support children and families navigating the effects of bullying.

  1. Therapy Sessions
Our warm, non-judgmental space helps children express their feelings and begin healing. Using play-based and talk therapy, we help them build self-worth and coping tools.
  2. Psychoeducational Assessments
Sometimes bullying stems from or leads to learning difficulties. Assessments can uncover underlying issues and guide schools and parents in creating safer environments better suited to the child’s learning needs.
  3. Parent and School Collaboration
We partner with caregivers and educators to develop practical strategies that address bullying both at home and in school.
  4. Workshops & Talks
Through group intervention, we can offer tools for building resilience, teaching empathy, and helping children advocate for themselves, and others.
